How artsy! Here is the latest trailer for Just Cause 3. It features a bunch of slow motion explosions and fire. At the very end, our forgettable protagonist flies through with a totally fierce look on his ruggedly scarred face.

Just Cause, to me, has always been nothing but a sandbox to do crazy video game stunts in. With that being said, I still loved the second game for what it was: a fun exercise in pointless chaos. That’s why this trailer feels so out of place and unsatisfying. This isn’t some deep and moving intellectual story.

Why¬†don’t they just bite the bullet and turn this guy into a bonafide super hero? He already regularly defies the laws of physics with his absurd grappling hook/parachute skills. Reportedly, he’ll be even better at using both of those things this time around. The parachute will be more stable and usable. The grappling hook in Just Cause 3 is said to be able to tether to 3 things together at once. This all but confirms that at least 95% of my time playing it will be spent abusing this toy.

There’s also the benefit of only being released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The map is made up of 400 square miles and there are huge draw distances. Let’s drop the old consoles entirely now so more games can take advantage of being freed from their limitations and development costs.

Just Cause 3 is coming sometime during the 2015 holiday season.

Yeah except that one actually invoked some kind of emotion and got people talking. From what I’ve read in comments on this one, most people just went “Okay… so where’s the gameplay?” It is what it is.

Interesting cover of The Prodigy’s “Firestarter”. That said, I feel as though a lot of trailers rely super heavily on music in order to garner some interest — some of which isn’t even related to the game (i.e. in the soundtrack).

My issue with Just Cause 3 is that it’s going to be the exact same game as the others in the series. It won’t break any new ground, and will just be a by the numbers sandbox / open world game. Just Cause 2 was HUGE in scope, but there wasn’t anything ever going on in the world to make you want to do anything in it. People will buy it though because they don’t know any better.
